ABOUT THE YMCA ALLIANCE OF MAINE

The Y is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits that strengthens communities through the impact areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The first YMCA was founded in Maine in 1863. There are now 16 YMCAs across the state. Every day, the Ys work side-by-side with their neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

The 16 YMCAs in Maine serve more than 130,000 people across the state each year. The Maine YMCAs are powerful advocates for children, families and individuals in our community. We leverage our trusted position in the community, private funds, and volunteers to provide critical services that would otherwise fall to government. We believe in working with our neighbors to address cross-sector challenges.
