The Bath Area Family YMCA is excited to announce the addition of Aaron Huynh, a highly accomplished swimmer and coach, to lead the Long Reach Swim Club (LRSC) competitive youth swimming program.
Originally from Southern California, Huynh brings over a decade of competitive swimming experience, having trained with both Nova Aquatics and Aquazot Swim Club. He went on to compete at the collegiate level at Babson College, where he set several school records, including in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle events. Additional records include the 50 backstroke, as well as several relay events: the 800 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, and 200 medley relay. He also qualified for the NCAA Championships, highlighting his elite level of competition.
Prior to joining LRSC, Huynh served as Regional Aquatics Director at the Down East Family YMCA, where he coached for three years and demonstrated exceptional leadership in athlete development. During that time, Huynh guided 14 swimmers to YMCA Nationals, coached four-time state champions in the girls’ 100 butterfly, and supported athletes advancing to collegiate programs across Divisions I, II, and III. Under his leadership, the team consistently performed at a high level, earning runner-up placements at the YMCA State Meet for three consecutive years while managing a program of 115–130 swimmers annually. Huynh is also an American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Level 3 certified coach.
“We are thrilled to welcome Aaron to the Bath YMCA,” said CEO Amy Vendt. “Our swim program is a cornerstone of this community, and Aaron’s leadership will help ensure it continues to thrive. His experience and dedication will inspire our athletes and strengthen the connection between our team and the families we serve.”
Long Reach Swim Club is one of the most successful swim clubs in Maine, having won 38 state titles—36 of them consecutively. In the spring of 2025, coach Jay Morrisette announced his retirement after 40 years in the role. This season, LRSC captured another state title under the leadership of interim coach Brian “Sponge” Savage, who currently serves as Senior Programs Director at the Bath YMCA.
“I am very excited to be a part of LRSC and the Bath YMCA,” said Huynh. “I am honored to step into this prestigious role, and I know that I have very big shoes to fill. I can’t wait to be part of the community and make an impact on an already successful team with such a rich history.”
