Since our founding nearly 170 years ago, the Bath Area Family YMCA has remained committed to the mission of strengthening the foundations of our community through a focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. While the needs of our communities have changed over the years, the one constant has been that we will be there to meet them.
For over 20 years the Bath YMCA has been home to a nationally accredited early childhood education program serving toddlers and preschoolers in the community. In 2021, facing a growing demand for affordable, quality childcare in our community, the Y began to plan a multi-phase capital campaign to expand our capacity to welcome more children into our program.
Fast forward to 2025 and our program has grown by leaps and bounds. In just three years our program has gone from teaching 35 children in three classrooms to nearly 100 children across six classrooms. We’re excited to open a brand new 10-classroom early learning center in Brunswick this fall to provide 130 childcare spaces to employees of Bath Iron Works and the community.
Now we're closing in on the final phase of our expansion campaign: Constructing a dedicated six-classroom early learning center on our Bath YMCA campus.

Making this vision a reality
Thanks to the early pledges from donors and local partners, and funding from the federal government, we are in an incredibly strong position as we enter our public-facing community fundraising phase.
Contributions from Y members, local businesses, and community supporters will be critical in finishing this campaign, but we are so close! We appreciate your steadfast support as we close this last chapter in our childcare expansion efforts.
Help us build a new home for childcare at the Bath YMCA by contributing to our capital campaign today:
